How Impaired Driving Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Driving under the influence can affect judgment, reaction time, and coordination. These changes make it harder for a driver to respond to traffic signals, turning vehicles, or sudden movements on the road.
Crashes at intersections or near highway ramps often involve vehicles moving in different directions. In these areas, drivers must quickly assess speed and distance. Impairment can reduce a driver’s ability to make safe decisions in these situations.
Even low levels of alcohol or other substances can increase the risk of a crash. Younger drivers may face an added risk due to limited experience behind the wheel, which can further affect their reactions in complex traffic conditions.
