Santa Barbara, CA (January 19, 2026) – A multi-vehicle accident along Highway 154 near Lake Cachuma left four people injured, including one in critical condition, on Sunday evening in Santa Barbara County.
Emergency personnel from the California Highway Patrol, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and American Medical Response rushed to the scene near Lakeview Dr and the entrance to Camp Whittier following reports of a serious collision around 6 p.m. Authorities confirmed that four to five vehicles were involved.
Firefighters performed an extrication to free one trapped individual from the wreckage, while paramedics assessed and transported all four injured parties. The victims sustained a range of injuries—one person critically hurt, two with moderate injuries, and another with minor wounds.
Both directions of Highway 154 were shut down during the response effort, creating temporary delays for travelers in the area. The road was reopened by approximately 7:30 p.m.
The circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation, as officials work to determine what caused the collision and whether any charges may result.
