Santa Rosa, CA (January 14, 2026) – A tragic collision involving a SMART Train and a bicyclist claimed the life of one person Monday morning in Santa Rosa, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:27 a.m. on January 12 near Piner Road. Authorities reported that the bicyclist, a man, was riding westbound on the south side of the train tracks when he was struck by a southbound SMART Train.
Santa Rosa police officers, firefighters, and paramedics responded immediately. Despite life-saving efforts, the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his next of kin.
Officials from SMART also arrived to assist with the response. Fortunately, the five passengers and two crew members aboard the train were uninjured.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. The crossing area and train schedules are being reviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
