What Drivers Should Know About Head-On Motorcycle Collisions on Two-Lane Highways
Head-on collisions on two-lane highways often occur when a vehicle crosses the center line into opposing traffic. These roads typically have limited separation between directions, which increases risk during passing maneuvers. Even a brief misjudgment can lead to direct impact between vehicles traveling at highway speeds.
Motorcycles are especially vulnerable in these situations due to limited physical protection. Visibility, road markings, and driver decisions all play a role in preventing these types of crashes. Weather, road width, and traffic density can also affect how safely a passing maneuver is completed.
After such incidents, investigators usually assess lane markings, vehicle positions, and roadway conditions. These details help reconstruct how the collision occurred and whether the passing rules were followed at the time.
