What Factors Are Reviewed in Pedestrian Crashes
Pedestrian crashes often involve a mix of roadway conditions, visibility, and driver awareness. Investigators typically look at lighting levels, especially during evening hours when visibility may be reduced. Street design, including crosswalk placement and traffic flow, can also affect how these incidents occur.
Driver and pedestrian actions are often reviewed to understand what happened before impact. This may include whether the pedestrian was crossing at a designated area or along the roadway. Speed and reaction time are also key elements, as they influence how quickly a driver can respond.
Details like vehicle position, road markings, and surrounding activity can all help clarify how a crash unfolded, and may provide a clearer picture when early information is limited.
