Why Turning Movements Can Lead to Motorcycle Crashes
Intersections along routes like U.S. Highway 41 and Bayshore Drive often involve vehicles changing lanes or making turns. In Sarasota, these movements can increase the chance of collisions when drivers misjudge the position of nearby traffic.
Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see, especially when drivers are focused on turning or merging. A vehicle turning across lanes may enter the path of a motorcycle with little time for the rider to react.
Crashes involving turning vehicles often happen when there is confusion about right-of-way or lane use. Traffic volume and driver attention can both affect how safely vehicles move through these areas.
