How Nighttime Bicycle Crashes Can Occur on Busy Roads
Roads like North Lockwood Ridge Road often carry steady traffic, even during late hours. In Sarasota County, these conditions can increase risks for people crossing or walking bicycles across multi-lane roads.
Limited lighting at night can make it harder for drivers to see someone in the roadway, especially when they are crossing from a median. Visibility may also be affected by speed and surrounding traffic conditions.
Crossing wide roads without marked crossings can add to the danger. When a person is on foot or pushing a bicycle, they may need more time to cross, which can increase exposure to oncoming vehicles.
