What Makes Left-Turn Crashes on Highways Risky?
Left-turn crashes on highways often occur when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of oncoming traffic. Even a brief timing error can place a vehicle directly in the path of another, increasing the likelihood of a head-on collision.
Highway speeds can make these situations more dangerous. Vehicles approaching from the opposite direction may not have enough time to slow down or avoid impact once a turn is initiated.
Safety measures like seat belts can influence injury outcomes in these crashes. While they do not prevent collisions, they can help reduce the severity of injuries in a crash.
