Why Early Morning Crashes Pose a Higher Risk for Pedestrians
Pedestrian crashes that happen during early morning hours, such as the one on East Park Ave, are often linked to reduced visibility and low lighting conditions. Even well-known neighborhood crossings can become hazardous when natural light is limited, and drivers may not expect foot traffic.
For older pedestrians, crossing streets takes more time and can present added risks, especially when drivers have little time to react. In areas without marked crosswalks or flashing signals, the danger increases significantly during commuter hours.
Local officials continue to emphasize the importance of pedestrian safety, including improved lighting, clear signage, and careful driving during early hours. Slowing down and staying alert in residential areas is critical to protecting vulnerable members of the community.
