What Happens in Wrong-Way Highway Collisions?
Wrong-way crashes are among the most severe types of highway collisions because they often involve direct head-on impact at higher speeds. These crashes typically leave little time for either driver to react or avoid impact.
On divided highways like Interstate 84, wrong-way entries can occur due to confusion at ramps, visibility issues, or driver error. When they happen, the resulting impact force is often significant due to the combined speeds of the vehicles.
After such crashes, emergency units typically prioritize rapid medical assessment because injuries can range from moderate to life-threatening. Investigators later review roadway design, signage, and vehicle movement to determine how the wrong-way entry occurred.
