Needles, CA (August 31, 2026) – A 24-year-old woman lost her life in a Saturday morning accident after a semi-truck overturned and an SUV collided with it on Interstate 40 in San Bernardino County. The collision occurred around 4:38 a.m. on August 29, near mile marker 112, about 1.5 miles before the Mountain Springs Road exit.
The initial report indicated that a semi tractor-trailer overturned for an unknown reason on eastbound Interstate 40. A Chevrolet Suburban then struck the overturned truck, leaving lanes blocked. First responders arrived and found at least one person who had died at the scene. The deceased was identified only as a 24-year-old woman from Aliso Viejo, with her name withheld pending identification.
The woman’s dog, identified as a white husky mix named Alaska, was also in the SUV and ran from the scene. The dog remained missing following the collision. All eastbound main lanes of Interstate 40 were closed while crews responded and cleared the roadway. We extend our sympathy to those mourning this loss.
