Prince Frederick, MD (June 29, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle crash with injuries was reported on Saturday morning, June 27, on Solomons Island Road near Sixes Road in Prince Frederick.
An off-duty Maryland State Police trooper arrived at the scene and found one person unconscious but breathing inside a vehicle following the crash. The trooper assisted before emergency crews arrived. Fire and EMS personnel worked to extricate the trapped occupant while preparing for emergency transport.
Due to the severity of the injuries, Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 was requested, and the patient was transported by air to a hospital. A landing zone was established nearby on the northbound side of Route 4. A second person involved in the crash was taken to CalvertHealth Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic on Route 4 was shut down in both directions while crews worked at the scene and cleared the roadway. Authorities are actively investigating the incident. Our thoughts are with those affected.
What Happens During a Serious Crash With Entrapment?
When a crash involves a trapped occupant, emergency crews must first stabilize the vehicle before beginning extrication. This helps reduce the risk of further injury as responders carefully remove the person from the vehicle.
In severe cases, air medical transport may be requested to speed up access to trauma care. Landing zones are set up nearby so helicopters can safely transfer patients to hospitals equipped for critical injuries. Investigators later review vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and response timelines to better understand how the crash occurred.
