What Information Is Often Examined After a Fatal Two-Vehicle Wreck?
After a fatal two-vehicle roadway wreck, investigators often begin by reviewing vehicle positions, roadway markings, and the timing of emergency calls. Photos, witness statements, and traffic camera footage may also help piece together what happened before the vehicles came into contact. In some cases, investigators examine whether speed, impairment, or driver behavior contributed to the damage.
Medical findings can also provide context about how people inside the vehicles were affected. Seat belt use, airbag deployment, and points of contact inside the car are commonly reviewed during these cases. When one driver leaves before help arrives, timelines become especially important as investigators work to determine movements before and after the wreck. Vehicle damage patterns and debris on the roadway may also help explain how the chain of events unfolded.
