Midway, FL (July 14, 2026) – A head-on crash on US-90 near River Burch Road sent several people to a hospital with injuries ranging from minor to critical on Monday morning.
The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. on the eastbound US-90 west of Midway. The Florida Highway Patrol said a car traveling westbound left its lane, crossed the center grassy median, and entered the eastbound lanes before hitting a truck.
Both vehicles spun before coming to a stop in the median. All occupants of both vehicles were taken to a local hospital, and the eastbound inside lane was closed for about an hour and a half.
The people involved have not been publicly identified. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway. We are wishing everyone a steady recovery.
How Head-on Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the most severe roadway accidents because the forces between two vehicles moving toward each other can be significant. These accidents often involve a sudden loss of control, lane departures, or vehicles entering opposing traffic lanes.
Roadway design, driver actions, visibility, and vehicle safety features are often reviewed after serious accidents. Seat belts, attentive driving, and avoiding distractions can help reduce the likelihood of severe harm. Drivers can also reduce risk by staying within their lanes, adjusting speed to conditions, and remaining alert on highways and rural roads.
