What Happens in Multi-Vehicle Rural Highway Crashes With Entrapment?
When multiple vehicles are involved in a rural highway crash, emergency response often requires coordination between several fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies. Entrapment situations typically require specialized equipment to safely remove occupants from damaged vehicles.
Air medical transport is sometimes used when injuries are serious or when hospitals are far from the crash location. Meanwhile, on-scene treatment is provided for less critical injuries while rescue operations continue.
Investigators later examine vehicle positions, roadway conditions, and impact points to determine how the crash unfolded. These cases often take time to reconstruct due to the number of vehicles and agencies involved.
