Taylor Mill, KY (June 21, 2026) – A pedestrian lost his life in a work-related incident on Saturday morning after being struck by a tow truck on Interstate 275 in Taylor Mill.
The incident happened around 9:15 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 78.8. Upon arrival, authorities determined the incident involved a tow truck rather than a traditional pedestrian crash. Authorities said the victim, identified as a 65-year-old Randall “Randy” Kuntsman, was working to load a vehicle from a previous crash onto a tow truck when the truck began to roll downhill.
Kuntsman was struck during the incident and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that no other vehicles were involved and that no suspicious circumstances were reported. We extend our sympathy to those mourning this loss.
What Investigators Review in Work-Related Highway Incidents
Incidents involving tow trucks and roadside recovery work are carefully examined due to the hazards present in active traffic areas. Investigators typically review vehicle positioning, braking systems, and ground conditions to determine how unintended movement may have occurred.
Work zones on highways require strict safety procedures, and investigators may evaluate whether proper stabilization steps were in place at the time of the incident. Physical evidence and witness statements are used to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Because these situations often occur near live traffic, emergency response and roadway closure procedures are also reviewed as part of the investigation process.
