What Factors Often Contribute to Pedestrian Accidents at Busy Intersections?
Pedestrian crashes frequently occur at intersections where both foot and vehicle traffic are high. Areas with multiple lanes, turning vehicles, and signal changes can increase the chance of a person being struck while crossing.
Driver visibility plays a role, especially during morning hours when glare or shadows may affect what drivers can see. At the same time, pedestrians crossing outside marked crosswalks or during signal changes may face added risk.
Speed is another factor, as even moderate speeds can lead to injuries when a person is hit. Traffic signals, crosswalk markings, and pedestrian awareness all work together to reduce the likelihood of these incidents in busy areas.
