Buffalo, NY (August 8, 2026) – Six people were hurt early on Thursday morning when a Chevrolet Equinox rolled over and struck a tree near the foot of Rte 33 and Oak St. Two adults and four children were inside the vehicle.

The two adults were taken to ECMC, while the four children were taken to Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. Two of the children remained in serious condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

The police said the driver lost control of the Equinox before it overturned and hit the tree. Investigators are examining whether speed or racing with a second vehicle that was not involved contributed to the accident. The investigation into the circumstances of the wreck remains underway.

Our thoughts are with the injured children and adults as they receive medical care.

What to Know About Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents can cause serious injuries because occupants may be exposed to multiple forces as a vehicle overturns. The risk can vary based on vehicle design, speed, roadway conditions, and how the vehicle loses control.

Children face particular risks inside a moving vehicle, making proper restraints especially important. Age- and size-appropriate child safety seats or seat belts can help reduce the chance of serious harm during a rollover.

Speed can also affect vehicle stability and the driver’s ability to regain control. Drivers should maintain a safe speed for road conditions and avoid racing or other dangerous driving behavior.

After a rollover, occupants should remain still when possible unless staying inside creates an immediate danger. Medical evaluation may be needed because some injuries are not immediately obvious.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
