Why Head-On Collisions Often Result in Serious Injuries
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway accidents because the force of impact is concentrated between two moving vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, the combined impact can cause major damage and increase the likelihood of injuries for drivers and passengers.
Two-lane highways and rural routes may carry a higher risk for these collisions, especially when vehicles cross the center line or lose control while navigating curves. Rollovers can also occur during a head-on crash if a vehicle is struck at an angle or forced off the roadway after impact.
After these incidents, investigators often review skid marks, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions to better understand how the collision occurred. Road closures are common while crews assist victims, clear debris, and make sure the area is safe for traffic to resume.
