Spartanburg County, SC (March 13, 2026) – Two people lost their lives following a three-car crash that occurred along Airport Rd, according to reports.
The accident was reported around 7:25 a.m. on Friday, March 13, along Secondary 25, also known as Airport Rd. Early information indicates that a Ford F250 was traveling south, while a Dodge Charger and a Chevrolet Malibu were traveling north along the roadway.
Investigators say the Malibu crossed the centerline and struck the Ford head-on. After the initial impact, the Malibu then collided with the Dodge Charger.
The drivers of the Ford and the Malibu were both killed in the crash. They were identified as 42-year-old Michael Ghent and 25-year-old Jokari Tharaeparambil, though officials did not specify which vehicle each person was driving.
No passengers were inside any of the vehicles at the time of the collision. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victims’ loved ones.
How Head-on Collisions Often Occur on Two-Lane Roads
Head-on crashes often happen on roads where opposing traffic is separated only by painted centerlines. When a vehicle drifts or moves across that line, it can place drivers directly in the path of oncoming traffic. These crashes are among the most severe because both vehicles may be traveling toward each other at high speeds.
Several conditions can contribute to a vehicle crossing the centerline. Driver distraction, fatigue, speeding, or sudden attempts to avoid obstacles are common factors. Poor visibility or wet pavement can also make it harder for drivers to stay in their lane.
Road design can also influence crash patterns. Curves, narrow shoulders, and limited passing zones may increase the likelihood of vehicles encroaching on oncoming traffic if drivers misjudge spacing or lose control.
