Frequently Asked Questions
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than other vehicle crashes?
Riders have no frame, airbags or seatbelts around them, so a fall or impact that a car driver might walk away from can leave a motorcyclist with broken bones, road rash or head injuries.
How do left-turning vehicles contribute to motorcycle collisions?
A common pattern involves a car turning left across a rider's path because the driver misjudges the motorcycle's speed or doesn't see it at all, resulting in a direct collision.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more easily?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice, allowing extra following distance, and watching intersections closely for smaller vehicles can help drivers notice a motorcycle before it's too late.
What should a rider do immediately after a motorcycle crash?
Move to safety if possible, call 911, avoid removing a helmet unless necessary, and remember to seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some injuries aren't immediately obvious.
