Frequently Asked Questions
What should a pedestrian do after being hit by a car?
Get to safety if possible, call 911, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms appear later. Stay at the scene until officers arrive and gather information if able.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
Pedestrians generally have the right of way inside marked or unmarked crosswalks at intersections, but drivers and pedestrians both carry a duty to watch for each other, especially where no crosswalk is present.
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Head trauma, broken bones, and internal injuries are common because pedestrians have no protection against a vehicle's impact. Severity usually depends on vehicle speed and point of impact.
