Springfield, MO (January 24, 2026) – Emergency crews responded to a serious two-vehicle crash on January 23 at the intersection of Battlefield Rd and Lakeside Ave in Springfield. The collision occurred on active railroad tracks, prompting immediate efforts to halt nearby train traffic and assist the injured.
Initial dispatch reports indicated one person was injured in the crash, and there were concerns that a victim may have been trapped inside one of the vehicles. Firefighters were seen attempting to break a vehicle window to reach the individual as reports of potential entrapment circulated. A second alarm was issued, bringing Tower 11, Rescue 1, and Battalion 1 to assist Springfield Engine 10 and Ladder 9 already on the scene.
Rail officials with BNSF were contacted to stop incoming trains, as both vehicles remained on the tracks during the rescue operation. Battlefield command was established at the scene to coordinate efforts between medical, fire, and rescue personnel.
