St. Louis, MO (January 12, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 255 early on Monday morning left both drivers with injuries after a distracted driving incident caused a collision just south of Interstate 55.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:44 a.m. when a 2012 Honda CR-V, which was stopped in lane 2 of SB I-255, was struck from behind by a 2014 Ford F-150. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the driver of the Ford, a 20-year-old man from Fort Smith, AR, was southbound on I-55 and failed to notice the stopped vehicle ahead due to distraction. He attempted to swerve left, but the front of his vehicle hit the left rear of the Honda.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were removed from the scene by Miner’s Towing.
Mehlville Fire Protection District responded to the scene and transported both drivers to Mercy Hospital South. The driver of the Ford F-150, who was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash, suffered injuries. The 22-year-old St. Louis man driving the Honda CR-V, who was properly restrained, also sustained minor injuries.
Trooper T.A. Gaedke conducted the investigation, with assistance from Trooper J.D. Hedrick. Authorities continue to examine the factors contributing to the crash.
We send our best wishes to both injured individuals and hope for their full and swift recoveries.
