How Vehicle-Bicycle Collisions Occur at Intersections
Collisions between vehicles and bicycles frequently happen where roads meet and traffic crosses paths. Drivers may be focused on other vehicles and fail to notice a cyclist approaching or already in the intersection.
Speed and visibility both affect how quickly a driver can react. Bicycles are smaller and may be harder to see, especially during busy traffic periods or when sightlines are limited.
Turning movements are another common factor. A driver turning through an intersection may cross directly into a cyclist’s path if timing is misjudged. Awareness from both drivers and cyclists can help reduce these risks.
