The 31-year-old man driving the Ram suffered moderate injuries, and his 7-year-old passenger had minor injuries, the patrol reported. Frequently Asked Questions
Where do fatal crashes like this tend to happen?
Rural two-lane highways with passing zones, like Route 185, see a share of fatal crashes because vehicles approach each other at high combined speeds with limited room for error during passing maneuvers.
What factors increase the odds that a crash turns deadly?
Higher speeds, head-on or angled impacts, and multiple vehicles involved all raise the risk of serious or fatal injury compared with lower-speed, single-vehicle incidents.
Does speed affect whether people survive a crash?
Yes. Higher speeds mean more force is transferred in a collision, which increases the likelihood of severe injury or death, especially in head-on or side-impact crashes.
Why is seat belt use emphasized so much after crashes like this?
Seat belts keep occupants positioned in their seats and reduce the chance of being thrown from the vehicle or into its interior during a collision, which lowers the risk of fatal injury.
