What Do Investigators Review in Fatal Bicycle-Vehicle Collisions?
Fatal crashes involving bicyclists require a detailed investigation to determine the sequence of events and factors that contributed to the collision. Investigators commonly examine roadway conditions, visibility, vehicle movements, bicycle positioning, and witness statements.
Authorities may also review physical evidence from the scene, surveillance footage if available, and vehicle damage to help reconstruct the incident. When a driver remains at the scene and cooperates with investigators, officials continue gathering evidence to establish exactly what occurred.
These investigations help authorities determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and may contribute to future roadway safety efforts aimed at protecting cyclists and other vulnerable road users.
