Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Involving E-Bikes Can Lead to Severe Injuries
Electric bicycles have become more common on city streets and neighborhood roads, especially among younger riders. Although e-bikes can travel faster than traditional bicycles, riders still have limited physical protection during traffic collisions. Intersections are particularly dangerous because drivers, cyclists, and turning vehicles may all enter the same space within seconds.
Hit-and-run crashes can also delay immediate aid and complicate early reporting. Vehicle damage, roadway markings, witness statements, and surveillance footage are often reviewed to piece together how the collision unfolded. In many cases, investigators also examine lighting, visibility, and traffic flow at the intersection. Injuries involving e-bike riders are frequently serious because the rider can be thrown onto the pavement or into nearby traffic after contact with a larger vehicle.
