Why Overturned Commercial Vehicles Can Create Extreme Highway Dangers
When large trucks overturn on busy interstates, they can block multiple lanes and create sudden hazards for approaching drivers. Vehicles traveling at highway speeds may have only seconds to react, especially during low-visibility conditions or heavy traffic. Even when drivers attempt evasive maneuvers, the size and position of an overturned truck can make avoiding contact difficult.
Secondary collisions are also common after rollover crashes. Drivers who stop to help or vehicles approaching the blocked roadway may face increased danger if traffic cannot slow down in time. Interstate crashes involving commercial vehicles often lead to severe injuries because of the force involved and the weight difference between vehicles. Roadway closures can last for hours while crews clear debris, inspect damage, and restore safe traffic flow.
