Why E-Bike and Vehicle Collisions Often Occur at Intersections
E-bike crashes involving turning vehicles frequently occur at intersections where multiple traffic movements overlap. Drivers making turns must account for both roadway traffic and crosswalk activity, while riders may approach from sidewalks or bike lanes.
Differences in speed and visibility can increase the risk of conflict, especially when riders transition from sidewalks into crossing zones. Drivers may have limited time to react if an e-bike enters a crosswalk unexpectedly.
Investigators typically review signal timing, vehicle turning paths, and rider positioning to understand how these collisions develop. These details help clarify whether right-of-way rules and visibility factors played a role in the crash sequence.
