Elk River, MN (July 31, 2026) – An 18-year-old driver died after a collision involving a Mitsubishi Lancer and a Sterling dump truck on Highway 169 at 221st Street NW in Elk River. The fatal accident happened on Wednesday, July 29, at about 6:01 a.m.
Investigators said the Mitsubishi was traveling south on Highway 169 when it collided with a northbound Sterling dump truck that was in the left turn lane preparing to turn west onto 221st Avenue NW. The Mitsubishi driver, identified as Brayden Michael Grunzke of Zimmerman, was pronounced dead following the collision.
The dump truck driver, 64-year-old Kenneth Francis Lynch of Rockford, was not hurt. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances. Our condolences go out to Brayden Grunzke’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
