Abilene, TX (July 1, 2026) – A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon, June 29, after a collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle at the intersection of Dub Wright Boulevard and Texas Avenue in west Abilene.

Police said a Jeep Wrangler traveling south on Dub Wright Boulevard attempted to turn left onto eastbound Texas Avenue, but failed to yield to a northbound Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. The two vehicles collided inside the intersection around 3:57 p.m.

The motorcyclist, identified as Jordan Ballard, 19, of Dyess Air Force Base, suffered fatal injuries at the crash site. Bystanders provided aid before emergency units arrived, but she was pronounced dead following the wreck.

Authorities noted she was wearing a helmet at the time. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash remain under review, and additional details may be released as the investigation continues. We extend our sincere condolences to Jordan Ballard’s family and loved ones.

How Left-Turn Motorcycle Collisions Are Commonly Reviewed

Left-turn crashes involving motorcycles are often examined by reviewing traffic signal timing, vehicle speeds, and right-of-way rules at intersections. Investigators may also analyze sight lines, roadway markings, and the positions of both vehicles before the collision.

Because motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger vehicles, visibility and timing often become key focus points in these reviews. Physical evidence, such as skid marks, vehicle damage, and intersection layout, can help establish how the vehicles moved before contact occurred. These factors help reconstruct the sequence of events in serious intersection crashes.
