Why Parking Lot Entrances Can Be Risky for Drivers
Crashes often occur when vehicles enter or exit parking lots along busy roadways. Drivers leaving a parking area must judge the speed and distance of approaching traffic before crossing or merging into travel lanes.
When traffic is heavy, it can be difficult for drivers to find a safe gap to enter the roadway. Limited visibility caused by parked cars, landscaping, or nearby buildings can also make it harder to see approaching vehicles.
Drivers traveling along the main road may also face challenges if a vehicle suddenly enters their path. If the approaching driver has little time to react, a collision may occur.
These situations are common on busy commercial roads where vehicles frequently turn into businesses, shopping centers, and parking areas. Careful observation and slower speeds can help reduce the risk of crashes in these locations.
