Thibodaux, LA (January 30, 2026) – Two children suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Talbot Ave in Thibodaux shortly after exiting a school bus on January 29. The crash, which occurred near Meadows Cir around 4 p.m., resulted in injuries to eight individuals in total, including four minors.
According to the Louisiana State Police, the sequence of events began when a 2004 Chevrolet attempted to bypass traffic congestion by illegally passing in a no-passing zone. While trying to merge back into the northbound lane, the driver lost control and struck the rear of a 2013 Honda Accord before veering off the roadway.
The Chevrolet then left the pavement and struck two children standing in a driveway just moments after getting off the bus. Both children sustained critical injuries and were airlifted to regional hospitals for emergency care.
The occupants of the Chevrolet, two individuals, also suffered serious injuries and were transported to out-of-area medical facilities. The driver and three passengers inside the Honda, including two more children, sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet confirmed who was driving the Chevrolet at the time of the crash. Toxicology samples were collected from all involved parties and are pending analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
Witnesses described the incident as traumatic and difficult to process, with one resident calling the sight of children being struck “unlike anything I’ve ever seen.”
Law enforcement officials are investigating whether speed played a role in the crash, and emphasized the importance of careful, lawful driving behavior, especially near school buses and residential neighborhoods.
We send our heartfelt support to all those injured in this tragic incident, especially the children and their families, and hope for their full recovery.
