Cahokia Heights, IL (August 10, 2026) – Three people, including a firefighter, were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon, August 8, involving an overturned Cahokia Heights fire truck.
Emergency units responded shortly after 2 p.m. to the intersection of East 5th Street and IL Route 3. A truck was reportedly traveling northbound on IL Route 3 at a high rate of speed behind a passenger vehicle, while the fire truck headed southbound with its emergency lights activated. The passenger vehicle slowed for the approaching fire truck, but the truck did not slow down and struck the rear of the passenger vehicle.
Both vehicles then crossed the roadway into the southbound lanes. The fire truck swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, but both vehicles struck its front. The impact forced the fire truck off the roadway, where it overturned. The drivers of the truck and passenger vehicle were taken to an area hospital with injuries.
A firefighter was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The southbound right lane of IL Route 3 was temporarily closed and later reopened. The incident remains under review by authorities.
