Douglas County, NV (August 4, 2026) – Three people were hurt on Sunday evening after a head-on crash involving an SUV and a sedan on US-50 in Douglas County, with investigators suspecting driver impairment contributed to the wreck.

The crash happened at about 7:27 p.m. on August 2, near the 10-mile marker on US-50 between Glenbrook Road and State Route 28, west of the Spooner Lake Recreation Area. Investigators said the SUV and sedan struck each other head-on for reasons that remain under review.

Two people with serious injuries were flown by air ambulance to a local hospital. A third person was taken by ground ambulance, though the extent of that person’s injuries has not been released. Driver impairment is suspected to have been a factor. No names or additional identifying details were available.

The investigation into the accident is continuing as more information becomes available. We extend our best wishes to those injured and hope they recover quickly.

How Driver Impairment Can Increase the Risk of Head-on Crashes

Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway collisions because the force from two vehicles traveling in opposite directions can lead to significant injuries. These crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses the center line, enters the wrong lane, or fails to maintain proper lane position.

Possible impairment from alcohol, drugs, or other substances is one factor that may be reviewed after a serious roadway collision. Investigators may also examine roadway markings, vehicle positions, weather, speed, and witness statements to determine how the vehicles came together. Medical records, physical evidence, and data collected from the vehicles can also help establish the sequence of events and provide a clearer picture of what occurred before the vehicles made contact.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.

let trusted professionals handle the rest
