Why Intersections Are Common Locations for Traffic Collisions
Intersections are among the most active parts of any roadway network because they bring together vehicles traveling in different directions. Drivers must often make quick decisions regarding turns, lane changes, traffic signals, and other vehicles’ movements.
A variety of factors can contribute to crashes at intersections, including limited visibility, driver distraction, failure to yield, or misjudging the speed of approaching traffic. Even at relatively low speeds, these collisions can result in injuries due to the forces involved.
When reviewing an intersection crash, investigators commonly examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, traffic control devices, and witness statements. They may also look at whether weather, lighting conditions, or traffic volume affected driver actions. These details help create a clearer picture of how a collision occurred and why injuries resulted.
