San Jose, CA (July 17, 2026) – A three-vehicle accident involving two white pickup trucks and a red sedan was reported on Friday afternoon on southbound I-280 near the McLaughlin Ave off-ramp.

The collision was reported at approximately 5:27 p.m. Dispatch information indicated airbags deployed in one of the vehicles, and a third vehicle, identified as a red sedan, was also involved.

Emergency units were initially dispatched to the scene. However, a later update stated that the people involved declined medical assistance, and the emergency medical response was canceled. The identities of those involved were not released. The cause of the collision remains under investigation as additional information becomes available.

We are glad that no serious injuries were reported immediately and hope everyone involved remains safe.

What Does Airbag Deployment Indicate in a Traffic Collision?

Airbags are designed to deploy during certain types of collisions to help reduce the risk of serious injury. Their activation depends on factors such as the direction and force of the impact rather than simply the amount of vehicle damage.

After a collision involving airbag deployment, investigators may examine vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and vehicle positions to better understand how the crash occurred. Even when occupants decline medical evaluation at the scene, monitoring for delayed symptoms is common because some injuries may not become apparent immediately after a collision.
