Los Banos, CA (July 9, 2026) – A three-vehicle traffic collision resulting in major injuries was reported on Thursday morning on westbound State Route 152 just west of Gonzaga Road near Los Banos.

The California Highway Patrol received the initial call at approximately 9:29 a.m. The dispatch log indicated that a Toyota Corolla, a Ford Explorer, and a third unidentified vehicle were involved. Early reports also noted there was no response from inside one of the vehicles, prompting emergency units to the roadway.

As the response unfolded, the incident was first upgraded to an injury collision and later reclassified as a major-injury crash. The vehicles blocked at least one westbound lane while medical personnel and other emergency units worked at the site. Tow trucks were requested to remove the damaged vehicles from the highway.

The identities of those involved and the number of people hurt had not been released at the time of publication. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the collision.

We extend our best wishes to everyone receiving treatment and hope for their full recovery.

What Happens During a Major-Injury Highway Crash Investigation?

Major-injury crashes on highways usually require a detailed review of several types of evidence before a complete picture can be established. Investigators typically document vehicle positions, roadway markings, skid marks, debris patterns, and weather conditions, and review statements from the people involved and any available witnesses.

Modern vehicles may also contain electronic data that records speed, braking, or steering activity in the moments before a collision. Photos, video footage, and measurements taken at the roadway can help reconstruct how the vehicles interacted. Because gathering and analyzing this information takes time, early reports frequently include only confirmed facts, with additional findings released as the investigation progresses.
