Why Wrong-Way Driving Incidents Can Lead to Severe Crashes
Wrong-way driving incidents are often severe because vehicles are moving directly toward each other, increasing the force of impact. High speeds on highways can make these situations more dangerous, as drivers have less time to react.
These incidents may involve multiple collisions, especially if the wrong-way driver strikes more than one vehicle. Secondary impacts, such as hitting a large truck, can increase the level of damage and injury.
Factors such as impaired driving, confusion on roadways, or missed exits can contribute to wrong-way driving. The combination of speed and direction often leads to serious outcomes in these types of crashes.
