Banning, CA (April 27, 2026) – Two people were injured Sunday afternoon, April 26, after a vehicle went off the roadway in Banning and landed several hundred feet down a ravine.
The crash happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the 8500 block of Bluff Street. Emergency units, including fire crews and paramedics, responded to the scene after the vehicle came to rest below the roadway.
Fire crews freed the two people from the wrecked vehicle. They then used a basket-and-rope rescue system to lift the patients back up to waiting ambulances.
One person was taken to a hospital by ground ambulance with minor to moderate injuries. The second person was checked by paramedics at the scene.
The incident remains under review by authorities. We wish those affected a full recovery.
Ravine Crashes and Rescue Challenges
Crashes involving ravines can be difficult because the vehicle may stop far below the roadway. Steep ground, loose dirt, and limited access can make it harder for crews to reach people quickly.
A rope-and-basket system may be used when patients cannot safely walk back to the road. This type of rescue helps move injured people up steep terrain while keeping them secure and stable.
Roadway departure crashes can cause many types of injuries. Even if a person feels able to remain at the scene, paramedics may still check for pain, bleeding, dizziness, or signs of shock. Vehicle damage and the distance from the road can affect how crews handle the response.
