Why Rollover Crashes Can Be Life-Threatening
Rollover crashes can cause severe injuries because a vehicle may strike the ground more than once. Each impact can shift the people inside, damage the roof, and increase the risk of head, neck, chest, and back trauma.
These crashes might also block lanes for an extended time. Emergency crews often need space to check occupants, secure the vehicle, and prevent other drivers from entering the scene. Narrow or winding roads can make that work harder.
Nighttime rollover crashes can add more risk because visibility is reduced. Drivers approaching the area may have less time to see blocked lanes, damaged vehicles, or emergency activity. That is why lighting and traffic control are often needed after serious crashes.
