Bourne, MA (July 3, 2026) – A Massachusetts State Police trooper suffered minor injuries on Thursday morning after being dragged by a fleeing vehicle during a traffic stop that led to a pursuit across the Bourne Bridge.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, the incident began at approximately 9:30 a.m. on July 2, when a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 25 just before the Bourne Bridge. Authorities said the driver refused to stop and continued onto the bridge, where additional troopers joined the pursuit and attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle.
Police said the vehicle began moving while the driver’s door was open, dragging one trooper several feet before fleeing across the bridge toward Falmouth.
The suspect continued into East Falmouth, where law enforcement agencies, assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and K-9 teams, located the vehicle outside a residence. Members of the State Police STOP Team and Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section responded to the home, where the suspect was reportedly initially non-compliant before being taken into custody.
The injured trooper was transported to a hospital for evaluation and was treated for minor injuries. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or announced what charges may be filed.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. We wish the injured trooper a full and speedy recovery.
How Are Incidents Involving Fleeing Drivers Investigated?
When a driver flees from law enforcement, and an officer is injured, investigators conduct both a criminal investigation and a review of the events surrounding the pursuit. Officers document the scene, collect physical evidence, review vehicle damage, and examine any injuries sustained during the incident.
Investigators also analyze dash camera footage, body-worn camera recordings, radio communications, and witness statements to establish a detailed timeline. Additional evidence, including surveillance video and forensic examinations of the vehicle, may be used to determine the driver’s actions throughout the pursuit.
By combining physical evidence, electronic records, and witness accounts, authorities work to develop a complete understanding of the incident and determine which criminal charges, if any, are appropriate.
