Big Lake, MN (July 3, 2026) – Two teens were injured on Wednesday afternoon after a scooter and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of Highway 25 and Pleasant Avenue in Big Lake, Sherburne County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the collision occurred at about 1:18 p.m. A 2018 Ford F-150 was traveling west on Pleasant Avenue while a scooter carrying two teen boys was traveling south on the sidewalk along Highway 25. The pickup and scooter collided at the intersection.

The scooter riders, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy from Big Lake, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to Monticello Hospital for treatment. The pickup driver, 80-year-old William Keith Stolz of Big Lake, and his 50-year-old passenger, John William Stolz, were not injured.

Road conditions were dry, and alcohol was not suspected as a factor in the collision.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation as additional information is gathered. We hope both teens recover quickly from their injuries.

Why Collisions Involving Sidewalk Riders Receive Careful Review

Collisions involving scooters or other small personal transportation devices often require investigators to examine how each person entered the intersection and whether traffic controls were followed. The travel paths of both the vehicle and the scooter are typically reviewed, along with visibility and roadway design.

Investigators may also consider helmet use, vehicle speed, and physical evidence such as damage, tire marks, and debris. These details help reconstruct the sequence of events and provide a clearer picture of how the collision occurred. Such reviews can also identify factors that contribute to crashes involving young riders near intersections.
