How Pedestrian Crashes Can Occur at Signalized Crosswalks
Even at marked crosswalks with active signals, pedestrian crashes can still happen. Drivers may fail to notice signals, misjudge timing, or be unable to stop in time, especially on busy roads.
Crosswalk signals are designed to give pedestrians the right of way, but safety still depends on driver attention and proper speed control. Visibility, lighting conditions, and traffic flow all affect how safely people can cross. Staying alert and following signals can help reduce risk, though crashes can still occur when drivers fail to yield properly.
