Amarillo, TX (July 7, 2026) – Two people died after a vehicle struck a utility pole and caught fire on South Grand Street south of South Loop 335 early on Sunday morning, July 5. The crash happened at approximately 1:50 a.m.
Martha Patricia Picazo, 34, of Amarillo, was driving a 2018 Audi Q3 southbound on South Grand Street when the vehicle left the road, struck a utility pole, and burst into flames. Picazo and her passenger, Luiz Daniel Lopez, 31, of Wildorado, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
No further details about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway were included in the initial report on the accident. The wreck remains under active investigation.
