Bracken County, KY (June 29, 2026) – Two people lost their lives in a head-on collision on Saturday evening, June 27, on Kentucky 9 (AA Highway) at Dutch Ridge Rd in Bracken County. Kentucky State Police responded to the crash around 6:45 p.m.
According to investigators, a 2004 Ford SUV driven by Brandon Barrett, of Ohio, was traveling west on the highway when it attempted to pass in a no-passing zone marked by a double yellow line. Troopers said the SUV collided head-on with a 2024 Kia. The Kia’s driver, Tyler Smith, and front-seat passenger, Emily Smith, both of Bracken County, were pronounced dead at the scene. Barrett was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment. His condition has not been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation as troopers continue gathering evidence.
