Grand Prairie, TX (August 14, 2026) – Two people died after a Chevrolet Suburban crashed into a parked dump truck on Wednesday afternoon in Grand Prairie, according to police.

Officers responded around 4:30 p.m. to the 500 block of N.E. 5th Street for a major crash. Investigators said the Suburban was traveling southbound when it struck the rear of the parked dump truck.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Tomas Castro Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene by Grand Prairie Fire Department medics.

Three teen passengers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials said hospital staff later reported that one of the passengers died from their injuries. The other two remained hospitalized.

Investigators said witnesses and surveillance video from nearby homes indicated the Suburban was traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash. The police also determined that none of the occupants was wearing a seat belt. No one else was injured.

The identity of the deceased passenger is expected to be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
