What Happens During a Hit-and-Run Investigation?
A hit-and-run investigation begins by gathering witness statements, reviewing physical evidence, and examining any available surveillance or dash camera footage. Investigators may also inspect the damage caused to the vehicles and compare it with evidence found on the roadway.
If a suspected vehicle is located, it may be processed for additional evidence that helps establish who was driving and how the collision occurred. Information collected throughout the process is used to build a timeline and determine whether criminal or traffic-related violations occurred.
