Galveston, TX (August 7, 2026) – Two people were hurt after a warehouse fire broke out on Galveston Island Wednesday night, sending large flames into the air and drawing multiple emergency units to the property.
The fire began shortly before 9 p.m. on Wharf Rd on the island’s east end. Fire crews from across the region worked to contain the blaze, which heavily damaged two neighboring buildings. The warehouse was believed to house a shrimping business.
One Galveston firefighter and a man using a wheelchair who was nearby were taken to a hospital. Information about the extent of their injuries has not been released. A dog was also safely rescued from the area.
Crews remained at the property on Thursday morning, applying water to the buildings to prevent hot spots from reigniting. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigators continue working to determine what sparked the fire.
